On long international flights
Business class on most long-haul flights now means a lie-flat bed, restaurant-style meals and lounge access. First class, where it's offered, adds more space, more privacy, a smaller cabin and more personal service.
On US domestic flights
On most flights within the US, the front cabin is sold as first class but is closer to international premium economy: a wider reclining seat, more legroom and complimentary meals and drinks. A few transcontinental routes have lie-flat seats.
Fewer airlines offer first class
Many airlines have dropped first class on long-haul flights, so their business class is the best seat on the plane. That's why we let you search both cabins.
When first class is worth it
First class usually costs far more than business. It's most worth it on very long overnight flights, when privacy matters, or when a sale narrows the price gap.
